REVIEW: Looking Good Dead at The Alexandra

Joshua Andrews and Peter James present Looking Good Dead at The Alexandra Theatre in Birmingham - a show where the deep irony that no good deed goes unpunished is at the forefront of people's minds...and let me tell you now, the Bryce’s really get a taste of punishment in this show!

In Looking Good Dead, Tom Bryce (Adam Woodyatt, Eastenders) is a failing businessman struggling to keep his business alive whilst also having to cope with an almost alcoholic wife who really has an unhealthy habit with maxing out the credit cards!

Commuting home one evening after work, a loud mouthed man sitting next to him leaves a USB Stick behind after he gets off the train. Being the Good Samaritan he is, Tom decides to take the USB home to try to work out who owns it so he can get it back to them, but little does he know, he’s about to open a can of worms that is going to plunge not only him but his whole family into a world of pain, treachery and betrayal.

The show takes place in the present day at the Bryce House as well as some of the surrounding areas of Brighton, which definitely have plenty of devilish things happening in the shadows.

The stage consists mainly of the Bryce’s household, along with an area cleverly disguised at the back of the stage behind the houses’ interior and a police desk area that rolls out onto stage to swoop you into the office of Police Officers Roy Grace (Harry Long), Glenn Branson (Leon Stewart) and Bella Moy (Gemma Stroyan).

Adam Woodyatt and Laurie Brett (Eastenders, Waterloo Road) immediately capture your attention and sweep you up into their busy and stressful life as Mr and Mrs Bryce, as well as working alongside the immense talent of Ian Houghton, who plays Jonas Kent, who definitely has a few skeletons in the closet!

From the very start, the actors managed to keep me on the edge of my seat, captivating every member of the audience, providing twists and turns at almost every given opportunity to ensure that you are kept guessing as to what’s going to happen and who is the mastermind behind it all. Then just when you think you’ve worked it out, you’ll have the carpet pulled from underneath you and you’ll realise that not everyone is as they seem!

Peter James’ Looking Good Dead runs at The Alexandra Theatre until Saturday 26th February 2022. For more information and to grab your tickets for this suspenseful performance, head to atgtickets.com/birmingham.
