£600k charity walk supports local Hospice

An annual charity walk through the streets of London has raised money for causes across the UK, including the Mary Stevens Hospice in Stourbridge.

Charity Walk for Peace has been organised and run by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Elders Association since 1985, raising more than £4.2 million for causes across Britain over the last 30 years.

In 2017, Stourbridge's Mary Stevens Hospice was chosen as a new beneficiary of the walk which raised more than £600,000 last September, when thousands of Ahmadiyya Muslims and charity supporters from across the country took to the streets of London to walk in the name of peace and serving humanity.

The money is distributed between the causes each year, with Mary Stevens Hospice receiving a donation of £500 from the walk.

The next Charity Walk for Peace will be on Sunday 29th April, and interested supporters can find out more or register for the walk online.

Bosses at Mary Stevens Hospice have confirmed they will be supported by the walk once in again in 2018. Wasim Shah, Press and Media Secretary, Ahmadiyya Muslim Elders Midlands Chapter, said:

"The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community’s long standing motto is ‘Love for All, Hatred for None’ and this walk epitomised the very essence of this, where people of different religions and race came together under one umbrella for a common cause of building a better world.

“With so much suffering in society we must make every effort possible to help everyone. This is what our faith teaches us and this is what we seek to put into practice. This was a great year with half a million raised, but we must and will strive to do more and help even more people next year.”

Dan Malin, PR Manager, Mary Stevens Hospice added:

“It's a phenomenal fundraising event and a testament to all involved that they were able to raise such a remarkable amount for causes all over the country.

"For us, it's a wonderful privilege to have been chosen as one of the charities supported by this event and the money raised will make such a difference to the families relying on our care here."

A Charity Reception has been arranged in Birmingham for Saturday 24th March 2018, representing an opportunity to meet the organisers, associated charities, sponsors, and the Mayors and MPs, who are supporting the noble cause of this Charity Walk.
