Age UK to offer nail-care service

Age UK in Birmingham and the Black Country have launched a new nail care service, ’Stepping Out’ to help older people maintain mobility and their independence.

In partnership with Dudley Integrated Health and Care NHS Trust, Dudley residents aged 60 and over are offered a basic foot care service, delivered by trained staff and volunteers. Stepping out provides a toenail cutting and filing of hard skin service to local residents who are not eligible for NHS Podiatry services or find it hard to look after their own feet.

Alison Beachim, Chief Executive Officer, Age UK Birmingham said: ‘I am delighted to be able to deliver a much-needed service in Dudley - something we all take for granted is the ability to look after our feet.

"As we get older it becomes more difficult and this can be painful and make it difficult to walk. Our Service is delivered in a friendly, safe environment, staff are trained to the highest standard and are there to help, there is also a range of information available for other needs and advice."

The Stepping Out Clinic is held at Cross Street Health Centre in Dudley, between Tuesday and Friday (10am to 3pm). A free initial foot care assessment is provided, and charges apply once foot care treatment is received.
