Appetising offer cooks up spicy £1,000 for Mayor’s charities

A curry night held at a restaurant in Wall Heath has raised a spicy £1,000 for the Mayor of Dudley’s three chosen charities.

Councillor Dave Tyler put on the night at his local Indian restaurant, Alam International on Albion Parade.

Restaurant owner Jahur “Joe” Uddin put on an offer of £5 for a main meal with rice, naan and poppadoms – and the place was packed out last night as more than 60 attended. Councillor Dave Tyler, the Mayor of Dudley, said:

“I was delighted with the turnout, the restaurant was packed out. I’ve known Joe for a number of years and he is always doing all he can to help the community.

“He effectively put the food on for free last night which was an amazing gesture. I’d like to thank him and all his staff, as well as everyone who came. To raise £1,000 in one night was amazing, and it will go to three very good causes.”

A raffle was also held to further swell the coffers for the Mayor’s three chosen charities – Dudley Mind, YMCA Black Country Group and Dudley Alzheimer’s Society.
