Boost for traders and shoppers at local car park

Businesses and shoppers in Pensnett are in line for a boost with plans to introduce parking regulations at a new car park to encourage local shopping and passing trade.

The new car park in Bradley Street will also have a brand new permanent surface to replace the temporary one as part of the plans. New parking times are being drafted giving shoppers three hours stay between 7am and 7pm, and 12 hours stay overnight.

The council has drawn up the scheme to encourage people to shop locally and bring in passing trade. Councillor John Martin, Cabinet Member for Highways and Environment, said:

"The measures are being drawn up to make sure that car park is available for people who regularly visit or just passing that important shopping area. We have listened to the views and ideas of local traders and made sure that we do everything we can to boost trade in that area.

"The overnight parking will also be handy to local residents, and coupled with the new surfacing, this is another example of investing in our local centres.”

The new car park opened last year as part of the £6.3 million road improvement scheme. The new parking measures will be in place over the next few weeks. The car park is scheduled to be resurfaced in April.
