Travellers move onto land in Amblecote

Around 30 caravans have moved onto land next to the Sainsbury’s store on Sandringham Way in Amblecote.

They arrived this evening at approximately 7:30pm, having moved from existing camps on council-owned land in Lister Road and Woodside, Dudley.

Frustrated at the development, Councillor Julie Baines, representative for Amblecote Ward, said “here we go again”.

The news comes after Dudley Councils plans for a temporary travellers site near Budden Road in Coseley were put on hold when Pat McFadden, MP for Wolverhampton South East, expressed concerns to the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, asking if the scheme can be reconsidered.

The development is due to cost the council £280,000 and chiefs said it will help reduce the number of illegal sites springing up around the borough.
