Bubble Rush kickstarts series of fundraisers to refurbish Acorns Hospice

Everyone’s favourite foamy fundraiser makes a welcome return in Walsall next weekend, kickstarting a series of special charity events in aid of a Black Country lifeline.

Bubble Rush is heading to Walsall Arboretum on Saturday 26 June and will see participants wade through a sea of multi-coloured suds for Acorns Children’s Hospice in the Black Country.

The family friendly 5km is being held to raise money for the charity’s hospice in Walsall. It is the first in a number of special events being launched by Acorns to refurbish the Walstead Road facility after its future was secured following a £2million fundraising appeal. Vicki Rowles, Acorns Head of Fundraising, said:

“We’re thrilled to kick start our fundraising for refurbishments at our Black Country hospice with one of our supporters’ favourite summer events. Bubble Rush always brings such excitement and we’re delighted to bring it to Walsall next weekend.

“Nothing beats seeing family members and friends bounding through reams of multi-coloured bubbles wearing huge smiles in support of local children and families.”

Bubble Rush 2021 is a Covid-safe event and has been organised in line with government guidelines, with staggered starts, social distancing and sanitisation points. It will feature four different coloured bubble stations, where foam canons will create four feet of incredi-bubble froth to really put the ‘fun’ into fundraising. Vicki added:

“The future of our Walsall hospice may be secure but as a charity, Acorns will always need the ongoing generosity and support of the local community to continue to be there for every child and family that needs us.

“Our next focus is on making improvements to the hospice’s bedrooms, including updating them and improving their access to garden. This will help to further enhance the experience of children and families staying at Acorns.”

Acorns announced in April that the £2 million Save Acorns Black Country Hospice Appeal had closed and the future of the hospice has been secured. A huge groundswell of support from local people, fundraising groups and businesses saw donations pour-in towards the charity and its hospice which provides care to around 200 life limited and life threatened children and their families every year.

Despite the uncertainty of Covid-19 and the massive challenges created by the pandemic, donations continued to come in. Together with other funding received by Acorns during the pandemic, the future of the Walstead Road facility and its specialist care was safe.

Ticket prices for Bubble Rush start from £10, with a whole host of fundraising ideas and support available online. Tickets cover the cost of entry only, with participants encouraged to raise a minimum of £10 for Acorns.

Bubble Rush is a Covid-Safe event and for this reason, it is not possible to register on the day. Anyone wishing to take part has until midnight 23 June to get their tickets.
