Chance To Play For The Baggies In Charity Match

Mary Stevens Hospice in Stourbridge is offering the opportunity for one person to play for West Bromwich Albion at an upcoming charity match.

A team of West Bromwich Albion legends will play against a Stourbridge FC XI at the War Memorial Athletic Ground, on Sunday 2nd April, with Darren "Big Dave" Moore the first star revealed to be turning out to help raise funds for the Hagley Road Hospice.

In order to provide someone with the opportunity to "fulfil a dream" the organisations involved have agreed to auction the opportunity for one person to enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime match day experience, lining up alongside some of the biggest names to ever play for West Bromwich Albion.

The auction will be done via email, and will remain open to bids until 5pm on Friday 24th March.

In order to submit a bid, simply email Amanda Bowen at amanda@mshfundraising.co.uk with your bid, the name and age of the player you're bidding for and the best contact number you can be reached on. Amanda Bowen, Deputy Head of Fundraising & Lottery, Mary Stevens Hospice said:

“It's not unfair to say that playing for the Albion is a bit of a dream for quite a few people round here, and we're over-the-moon to be able to offer someone that opportunity.

Every penny of the money raised through this auction will support patients and families here at the Hospice, so if we can support our patients while giving someone the chance to fulfil a dream then it's something we're proud and excited to do.”

Mark Naylor, co-founder of the event and Goalkeeping Coach at West Bromwich Albion, said:

“Wearing the WBA badge is a privilege a lot of the lads involved in the day have been lucky enough to enjoy, and we know how much it means to have the opportunity to wear the strip.

There is nothing better than playing for a team you love, in front of a packed out crowd and if you can do that while supporting a cause that we are all so passionate about then that's just the most exciting thing to be involved in.

There's a strong chance that the winning bidder will probably be quite a bit fitter than a few of us these days, so we hope they're ready to play a key part in the match as we may be relying on them.”

Darren Moore was announced by the Hospice on Friday 17th February, with the promise of "more huge names" to be revealed in the weeks leading up to the game, including at least one former-international.

Tickets for the game will be £5 for adults and free for under-16's, and can be purchased at the turnstile on the day of the game. The event will start at 1pm with a big family fun day and mascot race, before the two legends teams kick off at 2:30pm.
