Charity looking for the best the local area has to offer

The Mary Stevens Hospice are calling on the local community to showcase their creative talents at their annual Summer Fayre on Saturday 2nd September.

A large part of the event will be a public-entry competition, with no less than 37 different judging classes in 10 different categories, for budding enthusiasts and amateurs within the local community.

Categories open to the public range from baking to flower arranging, stopping off at veg growing and recycling along the way. There is also a separate category for any children who would like to create something over the summer holidays to enter into the show. The full-list of categories and details on how to enter can be found online at the Mary Stevens Hospice website.

All categories will be judged by representatives of local businesses and organisations, with prizes available to the three best entries in each class. A judging committee from the Hospice will then decide on an overall "best in show" entry out of the 10 category winners. Amanda Bowen, Deputy Head of Fundraising & Lottery, Mary Stevens Hospice said:

“Our competition tent is the perfect opportunity for enthusiasts and amateurs alike to showcase their talent and have a bit of fun, while helping raise money for the families who rely on our support.

"Our categories include knitting, handicraft, gardening, baking, photography, card-making, home brewing and even recycling, so there really is something for everyone to have a crack at! So if you've got a big carrot, we'd love to see it at our Fayre on the 2nd September!”

Jemma Lloyd, Founder of Iced Jems and Bake-Off judge, said:

“I can’t wait to be a part of Mary Stevens Hospice Summer Fayre again! It’s lovely to be able to work with such a lovely local charity, we regularly see the impact they have on our community and the hospice is often mentioned in store by customers who have been impacted one way or another.

"It'll be so exciting to see all the baking talent in the baking competition and spend the day with the lovely community that supports the Hospice. I think the most difficult thing will be having to wait to eat all the fantastic entries!”

The Summer Fayre is being held at the Mary Stevens Hospice on Saturday 2nd September, starting at 11am with a large parade through the streets of Oldswinford. Tickets are £2 for aged 16+ and £1 for under-16's.

Competition entrants must complete a form which can be downloaded online, and pay £2 in order to submit an entry. For more information, please call the Hospice Fundraising team on 01384 377 778.
