Community rallies round after Sycamore theft

Local people have shown how much they care by raising £600 after the theft of a collection bucket from Sycamore Adventure Playground.

The council-run facility, which offers a wealth of play opportunities for local children throughout the year, was victim to a theft earlier in the month (Saturday 9 April). Although entry to the centre is free, donations are welcome to support running costs and future development of the centre.

While the facility was being tidied after welcoming more than 100 children and their families through its doors, the collection bucket was stolen and an estimated £100 was lost. Friends of Sycamore Adventure, a charity which supports the development of the adventure playground posted the news on their Facebook page asking if there were any witnesses.

One of the parents who attended the session saw the post and decided to set up a JustGiving page and donations flooded in with, over £600 in donations received to date. Funds will go towards the purchase of new resources for play and new developments at the popular centre which runs family play sessions, school sessions, children’s parties and special sessions for children with additional needs.

The donations scheme is still running and can be found by going to: crowdfunding.justgiving.com/sycamore-centre.
