Council to force taxi drivers to remove tinted windows

Dudley Council is to force taxi drivers to remove certain tinted windows in their vehicles over safety concerns.

Private hire vehicles are required to have back windows which allow at least 40% of light through, following a child sexual exploitation review in Rotherham.

But Dudley Private Hire & Taxi Association has accused the local authority of scaremongering, saying there is no evidence that tinting is related to crime.

Council bosses have carried out a review of the rules but is expected to uphold its regulations at a meeting tomorrow (Tuesday).
