Dudley Trail launched for 2018

Walkers from across the country are getting ready for the 38th annual Dudley Trail.

The event, which attracts more than 2,000 people every year, will take place on Sunday 6 May and promises to be bigger and better than ever before.

Walks of six, nine, 12, 20 and 28 miles are on offer, with routes covering the hidden beauty and proud industrial heritage of the borough. This year will also see the introduction of a photo competition for both under 14s and adults with a chance to win tickets to Himley bonfire.

Participants can walk at their own pace and will take in the sights of canal towpaths, disused railway lines, country footpaths and a few roads as part of the walks. All walks start from Dudley Leisure Centre at designated times between 8am and noon. Councillor Dave Tyler, Mayor of Dudley, said:

“The Dudley Trail is a popular event every year and people of all ages take part as individuals, groups or families and there is a great atmosphere on the day.

“Walking is one of the best ways to stay fit and active and I am sure people will turn out again this year to take up the challenge of one of the five distances on offer. This year people can book easier than ever by registering in advance online.”

People can walk to raise money for a charity of their choice and there will be an opportunity to make donations to the Mayor of Dudley’s charities on the day. Checkpoints are strategically placed along each of the five routes to ensure the well being and whereabouts of walkers and light refreshments are available. Everyone who completes a trail receives a certificate of achievement.

Online fees are £4 per person to join the 28 and 20 mile routes, £3 for the 12 and nine mile routes and £2.50 to walk the gentler six mile route. Costs will be an extra £1 for each route by booking on the day.

Information is available at himleyhallandpark.co.uk/dudleytrail and hard copies of the entry form are available from the council’s leisure centres and libraries or by calling 01384 817834.
