Extended opening hours for new variant tests

Extended opening hours are now operating at the mobile testing unit in Dudley Port to help people who work get slots.

The unit was set up last week to identify cases of the Covid-19 variant first discovered in South Africa. From today it will open between 8:00am and 3:45pm for people without symptoms who live in certain parts of the DY4 7, DY4 8 and B69 2 postcode areas.

The area is loosely between Birmingham Canal in the north, New Birmingham Road in the south, Coneygree Road in the west and Vaughan Trading Estate in the east.

Those without symptoms who can get to the MTU are urged to go as soon as possible – you can walk-in without booking, but if you have to drive there you must book an appointment. A booking system for drive-in appointments is available on the council’s website.

Anyone who's not online, or who has questions about the targeted testing in the Oldbury/Tipton border area, can call the Healthy Sandwell team on 0800 011 4656 for advice.

People with symptoms of Covid-19 should continue to book a PCR test in the usual way, via the Government website or by calling 119.
