Extra green waste collections still available

More than 500 households have taken up the offer of additional green waste collections this winter.

Borough residents can enjoy the two additional green waste collections during November and December, thanks to an expansion of the service. Slots are still available for those who haven’t yet booked.

By paying a small fee of just £15, households can have the extra weeks added onto the end of their normal fortnightly collections. These two additional collections will take place on the usual collection day, the first a fortnight after their last scheduled collection and the final one a fortnight later. Councillor Karen Shakespeare, cabinet member for public realm, said:

"More than 500 households have already taken up this offer which allows them to get their gardens tidied up before the winter without the need to go make multiple trips to the tip with their garden waste. It’s convenient and a real time-saver.

"With the milder weather and some flowers still in bloom residents may want to delay their winter clear-up until later in the season and this service allows them to do that

"For only £15 residents will be able to dispose of additional garden waste quickly and efficiently, including grass cuttings, hedge clippings, annual weeds, leaves, small branches and small prunings."

Anyone who currently has an additional brown lidded garden bin can also arrange a further collection by paying just £5 (£20 in total which includes the first bin).

People need to book at least two full working days prior to their standard collection date, for example a collection for the Friday must be booked on the Tuesday before so anyone whose final waste collection of the season is imminent or has already happened needs to get in touch quickly in order to make the most of this offer. Anyone who misses the first extra collection can still have the second collection, but the cost for one or two collections remains the same at £15.

Slots can be booked online or by calling Dudley Council Plus on 0300 555 2345.

Any waste left at the side of bins ready for collection cannot be taken by crews, it is important residents dispose of all waste correctly. Second household garden bin collections run from early spring until autumn, for an additional cost.

Residents wishing to check their next scheduled collection can visit the council website for confirmation of their next collection date.
