Former Sandwell cop jailed for corruption

A former Sandwell police officer has today been sentenced to 14 months for corruption.

Former PC Palvinder Singh, known as Pal, from the Smethwick neighbourhood team, was arrested in November 2018 after an allegation was made in relation to suspected improper use of his police powers.

As enquiries began, Singh of Burns Road in Wednesbury, was suspended from policing duties and in April this year, was charged with five counts of corrupt and improper exercise of police powers and privileges between May and October 2018.

The 39-year-old was found to be contacting vulnerable victims and witnesses in an attempt to engage in a sexual relationship, something which he successfully managed to do.

He also misused West Midlands Police systems to conduct checks for a non-policing purpose;  he was officially dismissed from the force on Wednesday 3 July.

At Birmingham Crown Court, Singh was sentenced to a total of 14 months, half of which he will serve on licence. He has also been ordered to pay a victim surcharge.
