Free park exercise classes go from strength to strength

People of all ages are urged to join the dozens already taking part in free exercise sessions in borough parks.

The sessions are run in partnership between Halesowen College and the local friends of parks groups and are supported by Dudley Council. They take place at five parks across the borough and have been attended more than 400 times in the first six weeks.

The 30-minute sessions, which take place during the weekend, are led by qualified instructors for all ages and abilities. They take place at Stevens Park in Wollescote, Buffery Park in Kates Hill, Abbey Street in Gornal, Stevens Park in Quarry Bank and Grange Park in Dudley. Deborah Harkins, statutory director of public health at Dudley Council, said:

"The feedback we have had is that people are enjoying being outside in the fresh air in a lovely setting while being active. As well as boosting their physical health people have told us they are feeling happier during the week after taking part.

"These sessions are for everyone, as people can work at their own level. We have lots of fabulous parks and nature reserves in the borough and I encourage everyone to get outside and be active this spring.”

People can find a full programme of the sessions at lets-get.com. Alternatively they can book via the TGO activate app on their app store.  As well as booking sessions, the app can be used to log and track activities, connect with others in the community, find other activity sessions happening in the area, or locate the nearest TGO outdoor gym sites.
