Hackett's loyal backroom team depart Stourbridge

Gary Hackett's backroom team have joined the former Stourbridge manager by following him out of the club.

The Glassboys have confirmed that assistant manager Jon Ford, first team coach Mark Clifton, goalkeeping coach Steve Johnson and sports therapist Richard Drewett have all stepped down.

It comes just 48 hours after Hackett resigned as manager following a 16-year spell in charge, a day after Stourbridge's promotion bid was ended by a Southern League Central play-off semi-final defeat to Alvechurch.

Alvechurch's promotion dream also ended after they lost 3-0 at Kings Lynn Town in the play-off final on Bank Holiday Monday - Kings Lynn will now travel to Northern League play-off final winners Warrington in this Saturday's Super Final.

Ford joined the club with Hackett in 2003, initially as joint-manager before stepping back to assistant and has, along with his colleague, been a formidable and inspirational part of the coaching staff since.

Clifton, an equally popular and vocal character on the touchline, was also present virtually throughout Hackett's reign, though left the club briefly to join Birmingham City's coaching department before returning to the club.

Johnson and Drewett have also been loyal and well-respected long-serving lieutenants of the departed manager, with a team-focused ethic being as much a part of the backroom setup at the club as was evident on the field.

While Hackett may have gained the plaudits for his achievements at the club, it was always evident that the solidarity of the backroom team was a vitally important ingredient in his success, which the club have now begun their search to replace.

Earlier, Stourbridge invited written applications for the manager's role, which includes responsibilities to support the development of the club's youth and academy programme, with a deadline of 17th May.
