Halesowen Gears Up For Festive Light Switch On

The event, hosted by Black Country Radio, will be held on Saturday and will include special guest; Team GB Paralympian Jordanne Whiley.

Organisers Halesowen Chamber of Trade, in partnership with Dudley Council, hope to top last year’s celebrations which saw over 43,000 people enter the town and the plans are to make this year even bigger.

Families, shoppers and traders are being urged to get involved and get into the seasonal spirit during the day when Snow Princesses and their Frozen friends visit the town. There will also be a special visit from Father Christmas in his sleigh thanks to Halesowen and Rowley Regis Rotary Club.

The fun will start at 11am with family entertainment including Dudley Zoo’s small animals, Giant fairground rides and live entertainment on the stage. Black Country Radio will be broadcasting live from the square from 12 until 2pm.

Shoppers will be able to start their present buying early with a Christmas craft and food market running through the town from 9am until 5pm. St John's Church will be hosting a Christmas fair from 11am to 5pm with tower tours at noon, 2pm, 3pm and 4pm for people aged eight and over. Wayne Edwards, Chairman of Halesowen Chamber of Trade and organiser of the day, commented:

“We may be a little town but we have a big heart and this year it’s going to be massive! We’ve got Black Country Radio providing us with entertainment, a fun fair, food stalls and our very own local girl, Jordanne Whiley joining us to switch on the lights.

“Halesowen town centre is the place to be this weekend as thanks to the generosity of our sponsors we've organised a true Christmas extravaganza, so please come along and support our biggest event of the year.”

The finale of the day will be the town’s lights being officially turned on by Jordanne at 5pm.

"We have top entertainment “Code Red "Fire eaters will warm up the streets and angle grinders and a daring Willy Wonka stilt walker will also help to build up the atmosphere. This will be followed by a state-of-the-art LED show from the towering nine foot Christmas Party Robot, who'll be dancing with visitors as Black Country Radio plays some seasonal tunes and chart hits," added Mr Edwards.

The Halesowen Chamber of Trade would like to thank the following sponsors for supporting the switch on: Sandvik, Less4officesupplies, Halesowen & Rowley Regis Rotary Club, The Cornbow, BB Price, Bescot Markets, GMB, BB Price, Lapel House, Less4ink, Harris Steel, Smiths Electrical, Chapman & Myers and Ruskin Developments.
