Himley Hall To Host Steam And Country Fair

More than 100 exhibitors and stalls will be heading to the steam and country fair at Himley Park on Sunday 5th June.

The historic Himley Hall and Park will be hosting the popular day out, which has developed from the former 'Steamer Sunday' event to a vintage vehicle display and country fair. It's now in its third year and runs from 10am to 4pm.

As well as steam engines there will be tractors, classic cars, vintage motor bikes, vintage cycles and the Midlands Volunteer Fire Service will be on hand complete with vintage fire engines. Wolverhampton & District Model Engineering Society are bringing their miniature steam train and there will be children’s funfair rides and a punch and judy show.

Visitors can stroll through the park and enjoy the sights and sounds of this fine collection of full size and miniature traction engines, fairground organs and vintage vehicles and take the opportunity to chat to owners about their exhibits.

As well as the vintage vehicles, more than 50 stall holders are set to be in attendance for the country show element of the day, with lots of goodies to buy including arts and crafts, fine foods, vintage stalls, ethnic hand crafted collectables and unique and unusual artefacts.

Himley Hall tea room will be open for light refreshments and afternoon teas and the main hall will be open for visitors with exhibitions including Rebecca Cresswell’s ‘A Brush For Life’ and ‘Sci-Fi Junk’ an amazing collection of books, ornaments, models, spaceships and oddities collected since the 1970's by local sci-fi fanatic Nigel Harris. Cllr Khurshid Ahmed, cabinet member for planning and economic development said:

“The Steam Fair has grown in popularity over the last few years, and this new country fair element will make this an even more busy and entertaining day out for people of all ages.”

There are still a few places left for people wishing to bring a vehicle along to the event or have a stall. Interested parties should contact Jacki Wynn, assistant events officer, on 01384 817822 for details.

Himley Hall is open to the public from Tuesday to Friday, and on Bank Holiday's, from 2pm-5pm. Admission is free, for more information call 01384 817817 or visit himleyhall.gov.uk.
