Home adaptations set to help Dudley residents

People living in the borough who are having difficulties in the home can benefit from the Dudley Home Improvement Service.

The Dudley Council led service oversees property adaptations for people of all ages who live in their own home or rent privately, with grants for the works along with a package of advice and practical support available.

People who are struggling with bathing, accessing the property or moving around within the home, including issues with getting up and downstairs, can apply. Typical adaptations include things like handrails, stair rails, ramps, level access showers, stair lifts, through the floor lifts, even home extensions to provide extra sleeping or bathing facilities. Councillor Laura Taylor, cabinet member for housing, said:

“We want to help people stay safe and independent in their own homes and communities and that is why we offer this fantastic service. We have lots of support on offer, along with grant funding to pay for home adaptations, and I hope borough residents will come forward and take advantage of it.”

Council tenants can also request adaptations. Anyone interested should call 0300 555 0055 for more information. A qualifying criteria does apply for grant applications.
