Leisure centres offer lifeguarding courses

Swimmers are being urged to take the plunge and sign up to learn lifesaving skills with a nationally recognised training course.

Dudley Council is offering the courses at Dudley Leisure Centre, Wellington Road, and Halesowen Leisure Centre, Pool Road.

The Royal Life Saving Society is running the lifeguard courses which can pave the way for a new career and equip people with essential skills.

The course will run from Monday 29 July to Friday 2 August 2019 at Halesowen Leisure Centre. At Dudley, the course will take place from Monday 22 to Friday 26 July. Councillor Ian Kettle, cabinet member responsible for leisure centres, said:

“We are once again offering these fantastic courses where people will receive a course manual and special tuition.

“Those who complete the course successfully will get an official lifeguard qualification and certificate.”

The courses are open for people aged 16 and over who will be expected to take a pre-arranged swimming test before the course dates.

The course costs £220 and spaces must be pre-booked with a deposit required to secure a place. The remaining balance is to be paid before the course starts.

For more information go to dudley.gov.uk or to provisionally book a place call the leisure centres on 01384 812800.
