The generous gift from the transport provider will be used to provide individual sensory stimulation equipment, for adults with profound multiple learning disabilities and complex health needs. The Unicorn Centre is part of Dudley Disability Service.

The centre is fully accessible and has three sensory rooms equipped with the latest equipment including heat and vibration controlled water beds, fibre optic lighting, bubble tubes and soft mats a computer suite with adjustable stands and touch screens, a music room, a wet and dry art room and a sensory garden.

The service offers tailored sessions to support people to achieve their individual goals. Sessions include: postural care support to help maintain and improve physical health, Makaton sing and sign, art therapy and SMILE (Sensory, Musical Interactive Learning Experience) to develop communication and social interactivity.

Although the centre is not currently open due to COVID 19, the team has diversified to meet the current challenges of the pandemic and now offers a community service, supporting individuals in their own home. Feedback received to date has been very positive. Councillor Nicolas Barlow, cabinet member for health and adult social care said:

“This is a lovely gesture from ONE4YOU, who also made a donation of £1000 to the Crystal Gateway over the summer, to support people with dementia.

“I think right now we’re all aware of how important it is to be kind and consider how we can help others, in whatever way we can and I’d like to thank ONE4YOU for their generosity.”

Abrar Ahmed from ONE4YOU Services LTD, added:

”We love working with the users of the centre. We get to know them as we see them on such a regular basis, which is why it was really important to us that we fundraised for them.

“I’m really glad we could make this donation which brings our total donations to various causes during the pandemic up to £2000. We recognise the hardship so many people are facing at this time and have tried to make a difference.

“We’re really glad we could donate to the Crystal Gateway and The Unicorn Centre and our next focus is on raising funds for domestic abuse charities. People can contribute if they wish through the Go Fund Me link on our facebook page.”
