Local MP welcomes Mayor’s support in greenbelt protection campaign

Stourbridge MP, Suzanne Webb, has welcomed the support of the Mayor of the West Midlands in a greenbelt protection campaign

During a visit to Wollescote, Andy and Suzanne heard about the importance of protecting Stourbridge’s historic countryside from development, a cause Suzanne has supported throughout her time as Stourbridge’s MP.

Standing in Foxcote Fields, Suzanne and Andy took in the Stourbridge countryside and views of Clent and discussed the importance of saving the fields, and other Stourbridge green belt sites, so they can be enjoyed by future generations.

Andy’s work as West Midlands Mayor has so far yielded £434m in investment for rejuvenating derelict brownfield sites, easing the pressure on our green fields.

As Dudley Council continues in its local plan process, local representatives have lined up to support the cause for protecting the green lung that sits on the edge of the borough. Commenting, Suzanne said:

“The green belt in Stourbridge is a vital part of life for many people, now more than ever as we have more time to take in the fresh air and beautiful landscapes that sit on our doorstep.

“I have long been campaigning for greenbelt protection and it is fantastic to have the support of Andy Street in this task. His work as Mayor is crucial to make sure we can protect these green spaces.

“The investment he has won already will go a long way to making sure these fields will still be here for our children and grandchildren to enjoy.”

Mayor of the West Midlands, Andy Street, added:

“We are determined to deliver brownfield first as our approach to meeting the need for much needed housing.

“Working with Councils like Dudley and others in the Black Country we are delivering more and more brownfield sites which means we do not need to be touching vital green field sites like Foxcote Farm.

“Together with Suzanne Webb MP and Dudley Councillors, I am sure we can protect sites like this from the threat of development.”
