Local MP's working to make employers more disability confident

Stourbridge and Dudley South MP's, Margot James and Mike Wood, are set to host a Disability Confident event in partnership with the Jobcentre Plus.

Through the Disability Confident scheme, the Government is working with employers to challenge attitudes, increase understanding of disability and ensure disabled people have the opportunities to fulfil their potential.

The event, which takes place on Friday 22nd September, will give local businesses the opportunity to learn more about the benefits of being a Disability Confident Employer and showcase the major contribution disabled people can make to local businesses, while challenging negative attitudes to disability employment. Margot James, MP for Stourbridge, said:

“The Disability Confident scheme is encouraging more employers to take on disabled people.

"I am very pleased indeed to be co-hosting this event and do hope this inspires other employers in the Stourbridge area to take part in the scheme.”

Mike Wood, MP for Dudley South, added:

“People with disabilities make up almost 20% of the working age population and I am very pleased to co-host this event to create further employment opportunities for them in Dudley South.”

The event is taking place at the BMET Art & Design Centre, Venture Way, Brierley Hill, DY5 1R6 on Friday 22nd September between 14:00 – 16:00.

Any employers interested in attending or working with Jobcentre Plus on Disability Confident please contact Jobcentre Plus on 01384 554719 or by email.
