A burglary suspect has been arrested over a violent break-in at an elderly man’s home after West Midlands Police traced him to an address in Dudley.

 Officers forced entry to the address in Griffin Street at 10.45pm on Saturday night where a 22-year-old man was arrested.
 
He was sought in connection with an attack on an 85-year-old man at his home in Devereux Road, West Bromwich, on 14 September where an intruder grabbed him around the throat and pinned him to a chair. The offender fled after being disturbed but minutes later is understood to have smashed his way inside a conservatory at a neighbouring address but again fled empty handed.

The suspect was arrested late last night after officers forced entry to a Netherton house. The detained man has also been arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm after an electric stun-gun device was found at the raided property; he remains in police custody for questioning. Investigation Manager, Sergeant Martin Richardson, said:

“Forensics experts examined the addresses and identified a potential known offender as the culprit – and last night we traced him to an address in Netherton where he was arrested.
 
“The offence he’s wanted in connection with was a shocking one for the victim. The offender sneaked in through an insecure rear door and subjected the resident to a violent assault that included grabbing him by the neck.
 
“This is a really significant arrest and we’ll be working hard to bring a successful conviction and get justice for the victims.”
