Marco Longhi MP commits donation to support mental health packs for local schools

The Dudley North MP has backed a project which aim's to ease the impact the current lockdown has on the mental health of our young people.

The Covid pandemic has brought challenges to many people for different reasons and there is a real concern about the impact of the pandemic on children’s mental health.

Upper Gornal resident, Emma Barton who is a children’s book organiser is co-ordinating mental health packs for local schools to help with this issue. Marco Longhi, MP for Dudley North, said:

“It was a pleasure to meet with Emma to discuss this fantastic project and its important role in the community. As a mental health first aider I understand the impact this pandemic is having on people’s mental health, especially young children.

"Children’s usual school environment, which is home from home, has been severely disrupted. It is vital that children have an outlet to express their own fears and worries. These carefully designed books are a really helpful resource for schools and parents to help explore some of the issues children are experiencing.

“I am really encouraged to see local businesses and schools back this project, it is providing a much-needed resource for local children who have faced a testing time. I would personally like to thank Emma for the community spirit she has shown and happy to commit £50 towards this great cause.”

Emma added:

“Understanding and managing Mental Health has never been more important than now. We are all navigating through immense levels of uncertainty and change. As humans we crave routine and regularity as well as human connection- all things which have been disrupted as a result of the pandemic- these books will support schools to help children understand and manage their emotions at this crucial time.”

“I just wanted to add a big big big thank you to everyone who has supported my Usborne venture so far. All the sponsors, shares and social media tags have made such a big difference. I really hope we can make a big change to some children's lives.”
