Mayor completes whistle-stop tour of 100 borough businesses

The Mayor of Dudley, Councillor Dave Tyler, chats to director Tracey Harris during a visit to Excel 2000 Windows

The Mayor of Dudley’s mission to visit 100 businesses in Dudley during his year in office has been completed in ‘fitting’ fashion – with a visit to a firm that puts in windows and doors for council tenants.

Councillor Dave Tyler has visited butchers, barbers, manufacturers, car showrooms and many more since taking office in May. He has visited on average 10 businesses a month, or two to three every week.

The Mayor brought up the century on Monday – nearly three months before he is due to hand the chains over - with a visit to fast-growing Excel 2000 Windows, based on Narrowboat Way in Brierley Hill. The firm removes old windows, doors and fascias and refits new ones, with large contracts in place for Dudley Council and Birmingham City Council among others. It also has a strong green ethos, recycling almost all of the doors, windows and window frames it brings back to base after putting the new ones in. Councillor Dave Tyler, the Mayor of Dudley, said:

“I’m really pleased we’ve been able to get around 100 businesses. I wanted to do it really to say thank you for all that they do, for without our businesses in the borough, there would be nothing.

“It’s been really inspiring to visit both smaller and larger firms and to hear of some real success stories, with bigger and better things still to come hopefully for most of them.

“Excel 2000 are a classic example of this, a company which has really taken off in the last 18 months and which I think will continue to grow and grow.

“Even though we’ve reached the century, I’ll carry on until May when I hand over the chains, and hopefully this will continue beyond my mayoral year. We need to champion and work closely with the businesses in our borough.”

Tracey Harris, director of Excel 2000, added:

“We were absolutely delighted and honoured to receive a visit from the Mayor, especially when we found out we were to be the 100th. He passed on some advice and some contacts which could turn out to be really useful and time-saving for our business.

“I’d urge bosses in Dudley to extend him an invite before he hands over the chains in May.”

Excel 2000 is also the main sponsor for this year’s Mayor’s Ball and Civic Awards, set to take place on April 20th at The Copthorne Hotel in Brierley Hill.
