More than 90,000 in Dudley pay by direct debit

More than 90,000 households in Dudley are now paying their council tax by direct debit, it has been revealed.

Residents who have not yet signed up for payments to be taken directly from their bank accounts every month are being urged to follow suit to make it quicker and easier to pay. Alan Lunt, Strategic Director for Place and Deputy Chief Executive, said:

“Direct Debit is proven to be the easiest and most efficient way for people to pay their council tax - and setting it up couldn’t be simpler.

“It can be done online 24 hours a day, seven days per week and we would urge those who haven’t signed up to do so to make their lives, and ours, easier.”

Direct debits can be set up at dudley.gov.uk or by calling 0300 555 8000.

Meanwhile, council bosses have reminded residents that households containing someone who has been medically certified as ‘Severely Mentally Impaired’ may be eligible for a council tax discount or exemption.

Around 60 residents already benefit from this in Dudley, with full exemptions (nothing to pay) available if the person lives alone or 25 per cent discount if they are one of two adults living in a property.

Customers experiencing problems paying their council tax are urged to call for advice and assistance, potentially avoiding unnecessary recovery actions and costs.

To enquire about council tax discounts or exemptions, or for advice and assistance with arrears, call 0300 555 8000.
