MP backs a call for more apprenticeships in the Black Country

Dudley MP, Ian Austin, has shown his support for National Apprenticeship Week, which highlights the benefits of apprenticeships in a week-long celebration.

The ‘Blaze a Trail’ themed week, running from 4th to 8th March 2019, is the 12th annual National Apprenticeship Week and will see a range of activities and events being hosted across the country promoting the benefits of apprenticeships.

The Week also highlights the huge number of high quality apprenticeship opportunities available at all levels around the country, in a huge variety of sectors, including aviation engineering, nursing, finance and policing. Mr Austin said:

“We need to make education and skills our country’s number one priority so we can attract new businesses and jobs to replace those we have lost in traditional industries.

“Over the next 20 years there’s going to be huge growth in hi-tech industries and I want young people in Dudley to be at the forefront so I am grateful to businesses who offer the opportunity to young people to learn the skills for a rewarding career.

“I have met lots of young people who have benefitted from apprenticeships, but it’s not just good for them but for businesses too.

“Apprentices represent the future for our industries and it would be great to see more investment in apprenticeships to give youngsters the best experience to take them forward.”
