New council homes springing up across the borough

Dozens of newly built council homes will be springing up across the borough as Dudley Council continues its drive to build quality affordable homes.

The council is expecting up to 29 new homes to be ready for rent in the next few weeks, while work on a number of new schemes gets underway.

First to complete will be five homes on Butler’s Crescent, the site of the former Dudley Guest Hospital, which is currently being developed by Wates Living Space in partnership with the council.

When completed, the development will offer 118 properties for sale and 39 for rent through the council, 34 of which have already been completed and rented out. The five remaining homes are due to be completed at the end of this month.

In addition up to 20 council homes on a development off Middlepark Road in Dudley will be available to rent in the next month. Of the 130 homes being built on the site by Keepmoat Homes, 42 will be available for council tenants and the remaining properties for outright sale.

Four new bungalows off Moat Drive adjacent to Margaret Vine Court  in Halesowen are also due for completion, with the scheme being delivered by Jessup Brothers as part of their framework agreement with the council’s ongoing new build programme. Councillor Laura Taylor, cabinet member for housing, said:

“With so many developments completing, ongoing or about to start, it’s clear that our commitment to building new homes in the borough remains.

“We want to continue to raise standards and build quality homes that are on a par with what’s being developed in the private sector but are affordable to our tenants.”

Work is also well underway to build 16 new apartments on the site of a former row of shops on Beech Road, Kingswinford.

Work has also started on site this week to build 12 one bedroom apartments on the site of a former furniture store on Wolverhampton Street, Dudley, 12 bungalows at Crowle Drive, Stourbridge and 10 houses on land off Wychbury Road in Stourbridge.

People can view properties available for rent via the council’s choice based lettings website; dudleyathome.org.uk.
