New IKEA Store To Open In Birmingham City Centre

The Swedish furniture giant are set to open a brand new store with a planning studio, a drive-in collection point and (of course) meatballs!

The store will take over a vacant unit in Dale End, opposite the former Carling ACADEMY, and is expected to open in Summer 2016. Birmingham will be the very first city centre to get an Order and Collection Point, which is a new concept for IKEA.

Much like a planning studio, it will enable customers to plan and order kitchens, wardrobes and sofas as well as featuring room sets and advisors to provide inspiration and ideas. There will be a drive-in collection service for items ordered online...and even a bistro serving its famous meatballs too!

Jack Jackson, IKEA Order and Collection Development Manager told the Birmingham Mail: “We are really excited to be bringing this unique new format to Birmingham, our first Order and Collection Point based in a city centre location.

“By introducing an Order and Collection Point in this market we want to bridge the gap between online and in-store shopping and offer customers a new way to shop with IKEA.”

The store will not carry the full product range to take home but customers will be able to order from the full range for home delivery or for collection at the collection point. Recruitment for a team of 30 multi-skilled co-workers has now begun.
