New outreach co-ordinator joins Dudley Zoo

Dudley Zoo has welcomed a new Outreach Co-ordinator who will take small creatures on their travels to a variety of events.

Madeleine Avila-Thomas, pictured with Drake the Brazilian rainbow snake, will head up the outreach squad which takes along creepy crawlies, reptiles and furry creatures to schools, events and attractions.

The 21-year-old animal lover, who worked as a party host in Kent before joining the zoo, has had a long line of pets including snakes, tarantulas, rats, frogs, rabbits, cats and ducks. Madeleine, who is now living in Dudley, said:

“I adore animals and enjoy hosting events and parties so I feel very lucky to be doing what I love as a job. It’s been awesome so far. I’m getting to know the creatures in the Discovery Centre and all the staff have been extremely welcoming.”

The zoo’s outreach team helps educate members of the public about the zoo and its conservation work by taking a mobile roadshow to schools, fairs and festivals. People have chance to meet small critters, get hands-on with bio-facts and there is face painting too.

Packages are available all year round, seven days a week and can be tailored for individual events. Anyone interested should contact Madeleine at outreach@dudleyzoo.org.uk or call 01384 215325.
