Police Given More Time To Question Murder Suspect

Officers have been granted extra time to question a man arrested on suspicion of murder after the body of a woman was found at a property in Dudley last Thursday.

The 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder by West Midlands Police at 5.45pm on Thursday evening following the incident in Highgate Road.

He remains in police custody but an extension to question him for a further 36 hours was granted by Walsall Magistrates' Court today. Detective Inspector Caroline Corfield, from Force CID, said:

“Efforts to inform the family and formally identify the woman are currently on-going and we are not in a position to release any further details at this stage.

“We’re working hard to get to the bottom of exactly what has taken place and I urge anyone with information which they believe could help our enquiry to get in touch.”

Officers said a post mortem examination, which was carried out on Saturday morning was inconclusive and further tests will be needed to establish the cause of death.

Anyone with information about the incident should call police on 101. People who don’t want to speak to police officers directly can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
