Public meeting called to create new Active Citizens group

A public meeting has been organised for 6pm on Wednesday 6th December at Halesowen College to form a new community group to tackle parking issues in the vicinity of Halesowen College.

The meeting, which will initially be chaired by Belle Vale Councillor Simon Phipps, will give residents living in the vicinity of the Whittingham Road College a chance to voice their concerns and hear how they may be able to get involved to help alleviate the problems in the area.

Once a new group has been formed, it is then intended for bids for funding to be placed with the Police for equipment to help combat the problems. Amongst the ideas suggested at previous meetings include placing cones in areas where parking poses a danger to pedestrians. Cllr Phipps, who has been working with local residents to combat these problems, said:

“The idea is to create a community group, with a chairperson, treasurer and a committee, so we can access funding sources to try and help ease problems that residents in the area are having.

“I’d like to see as many local residents get involved as possible. We’re looking for nominations for the officer and committee positions so if you’re interested or would like further information, please do not hesitate to contact me.”

Local Resident John Ellsmore added: “I would encourage any residents who are concerned with the parking and other issues locally to come along to the meeting and volunteer to get involved. It is a great opportunity to take more control over the situation and have a hand in tackling the issues affecting local residents in the area.”

Any residents who are interested in becoming part of the group are invited to attend the meeting and further information can be obtained by contacting Cllr Phipps by email.
