Quinton police recover 170 stolen Christmas presents

Police have found more than 170 stolen Christmas presents in Quinton.

Six people have been arrested after the gifts were recovered following a tip-off from a member of the public which led to a raid on a property in Little Park.

It follows the theft of two vans belonging to online retailer Amazon, which were stolen – one of them at knifepoint, in Sandwell and Birmingham last week.

Neither van has yet been recovered and the second vehicle is still potentially full of parcels.

Officers are now working with the retailer to get the presents to their rightful owners in time for Christmas.

The six people taken into custody, who are aged between 21 and 50, are being questioned on suspicion of theft and robbery.

A police spokesman said: "This is a great example of how the public and the police have worked hand in hand to save a lot of disappointment this Christmas.

"It just goes to show how if people trust their instincts and get in touch with us about concerns in their community, we can together effectively crack down on serious organised crime.

"We’re keen to hear from anyone who can assist us with this investigation, which is still very much in its early stages.

"If you are worried one of these packages may be yours, please contact Amazon directly."
