Thousands of people flocked to Dudley to help make this year’s St George’s celebrations a roaring success.

Dudley Council and Dudley Zoological Gardens teamed up to host the annual festivities on Saturday which included free events at Dudley Zoo and attractions in the town centre.

Visitors to the zoo enjoyed the entertainment in the 11th century castle’s courtyard which included medieval re-enactors, children’s entertainers Flip and Dippy, face painting and crafts.

There were also extra talks and feeds at the penguin and sea lion enclosures for families to enjoy. The town centre was also bustling with people who came along to meet some of the zoo’s popular creatures in the Market Place.

Dudley Museum and Art Gallery and the town’s library also hosted free activities. Councillor Steve Waltho, Mayor of Dudley, said:

“The St George’s Day celebrations are always lots of fun but we’re delighted that we joined up with the zoo to make this year’s extra special. We have lots to celebrate here in Dudley and St George’s Day is the perfect excuse to do that.”

Derek Grove, Zoo Director, added:

“We were delighted to work alongside Dudley Council in celebrating St George’s Day this year. The day was a great success and it was wonderful to welcome so many people to DZG to celebrate our patron saint.”
