Still time to submit your comments about LDO consultation

There’s still time for people to have their say on proposals which would make it easier for businesses to progress industrial development in an area of Brierley Hill.

People have until December 15th to submit their comments about the draft Blackbrook Valley Local Development Order.

If adopted, the LDO will simplify the planning process for appropriate industrial development within a defined area, covering  the existing industrial estates between Pedmore Road and Saltwells Local Nature Reserve, centred on Peartree Lane and Narrowboat Way. The LDO will complement the regeneration objectives of the wider DY5, Dudley’s Business and Innovation Enterprise Zone , which includes a number of sites within the LDO area.

The proposed LDO would benefit eligible businesses through a simplified planning process, including the provision of clear guidance on planning requirements and a set fee for applications.

If the LDO’s stipulated requirements are met, it will enable businesses in the area to proceed with industrial developments without the need for the submission and assessment of a planning application. Councillor Ian Kettle, cabinet member for planning and economic development, said:

“With just over a week to go until the consultation comes to an end, I would ask people to take a few minutes to tell us what they think about the proposed LDO.

“We are confident the LDO will complement DY5 by encouraging more companies to do business here and boost our overall economic growth.  With that comes the prospect of new jobs, which can only be a positive for local people.”

People can find out more and details on how to submit their comments on the Dudley Council website. Following the consultation, a final decision will be made early next year.

If adopted, the new LDO would go live in April 2018 and would run until March 2028.
