Stolen WW1 painting is returned

A rare painting depicting a local war hero which was stolen from a Dudley borough library has been returned safe and sound wrapped in a carrier bag.

The picture, depicting Brockmoor WWI soldier Sergeant William Jordan rescuing a wounded comrade in May 1915, was left in a carrier bag outside Cradley Library recently.

It was painted by Francis Gibbons and for many years it was on display at Brierley Hill's old free library in Moor Street.
