Teenage boy arrested over Birmingham school bomb hoax

The maximum sentence for the offence of communicating a bomb hoax is seven years in prison.

A 14 year old teenager has been arrested in connection with a hoax call made to a school in Birmingham.

The boy was arrested by officers this morning after the call was traced to a nearby phone box and CCTV enquiries identified him as a suspect.

He has been arrested on suspicion of being responsible for the bomb hoax called in to Great Barr School on Wednesday (27/01). The case is not being linked to any other hoax call offences at schools in the West Midlands.

He is currently in police custody and will be spoken to by officers during the day.

Inspector Noeleen Murrin, from Birmingham Police, said: “These kinds of offences are not only a drain on police, council and school resources but they also waste the time of pupils who should be receiving their education.

“We take reports like this very seriously and have acted quickly to identify the person we believe is responsible.”
