Teenage sex attacker avoids jail

A teenager who carried out a sex attack on a four-year-old girl inside a Cradley Heath church has avoided a jail sentence.

Wolverhampton Crown Court heard that the 17 year-old had been trusted to look after young children at the church while parents attended services.

The judge told the youth, who was 16 at the time of the offence and can’t be named for legal reasons, that if he’d been an adult, he could have been given a life sentence.

He admitted the offence and was made the subject of a two year youth rehabilitation order, and told to register as a sex offender for the next 30 months.
