The International Festival of Glass is coming to town

Over the August Bank Holiday there will be loads to see and do for the whole family at the Red House Glass Cone, as part of the International Glass Festival 2017.

The Stourbridge Glass Quarter is world renowned for its glass heritage and we are proud to celebrate in this unique way.  Working with other partners, the festival’s aim is to celebrate and showcase the skills and innovation of the glass industry and makers, both historic and contemporary.

This year’s theme is ‘Glass for Good’ and the 1790’s Glass Cone will host many activities including have a go sessions, informative talks, exhibitions and a family fun day.  Amongst other things, on Friday and Saturday visitors can have a go at fused glass activities, Sunday we are hosting a teenage market and on Bank Holiday Monday there is a free family fun day. Cllr Ian Kettle, cabinet member for planning and economic development said:

“The International Festival of Glass is a real feather in the cap of Dudley as it is globally recognised and includes the major Biennale exhibition.  The Red House Glass Cone is the ultimate choice for a venue given its strong historical ties.

“Stourbridge has been a major glassmaking centre since the beginning of the 17th century.  Celebrated pieces of art now located around the world, many of which generated wealth for the country’s economy and contributed towards technological advances within industry.

“I would encourage anyone interested in crafts, and glass in particular, to come along to the Red House Glass Cone over the Bank Holiday weekend.  Fun for all of the family, you can have a go at crafts, view the glorious gleaming glass quarter garden, and enjoy a family fun day.”

Please note, you do not need to purchase a festival pass to gain access to the Red House Glass Cone, but other venues do require visitors to be in possession of one.
