Theatre group casts for canine star of next show

West Bromwich Operatic Society are looking for a dog to star as Toto in their upcoming production of ‘The Wizard Of Oz’ at Wolverhampton Grand Theatre.

In the 1939 film version, Toto was played by Terry, a Cairn Terrier and the society are looking for similar small dogs to audition for the role in their production.

The dog can be male or female and must have a friendly nature and be comfortable on stage performing nightly from Tuesday – Saturday with two performances on the Wednesday and Saturday. The dog must be available for all performances between 1 – 5 October including a full dress rehearsal on the evening of 30 September and for multiple rehearsals on Mondays and Wednesdays throughout the summer and leading up to the performance week.

Auditions will be held on stage at Wolverhampton Grand Theatre from 10am on Saturday 20 July. John Wetherall from West Bromwich Operatic Society said:

“There are castings happening at WBOS multiple times a year but it’s not very often we’re looking for canine performers!

“We’re hugely excited to be presenting The Wizard Of Oz and with a fabulous cast already in place we now need to cast our final, fabulous and furry cast member in the role of Toto!

“Please come down to the Grand for a fun morning on stage with your dog – we’d love to see as many of you as possible!”

If you have a dog who fits the bill, please contact Hilary Matty with a photograph by Thursday 18 July by email to hilary@wbos.co.uk.

‘The Wizard Of Oz’ plays at Wolverhampton Grand Theatre from 1 – 5 October and tickets are on sale now, online at grandtheatre.co.uk, by calling 01902 42 92 12 or in person at the Box Office.
