Two arrests after baby found in car park

Police have made two arrests after the body of a baby was found in a Bilston car park.

Officers issued an appeal to find the mother of the baby who was found dead in the car park of Morrisons in Bilston just after 9am on Sunday.

She was identified as a result and was taken to hospital to receive appropriate care. Police are now investigating the tragic circumstances in which the baby died.

A post mortem examination will be carried out on the baby boy, who was not thought to be at full-term.

A 21-year-old woman and a 36-year-old man have been arrested in connection with the baby’s death and are currently in custody.

This was a devastating discovery which we know has shocked and saddened many people.

We understand this is an emotive event however we would ask people not to speculate on the circumstances of this tragedy, it’s unhelpful to our investigation which we are working through with dignity and care. Detective Inspector Tim Draper, from our public protection unit, said:
