UKIP councillor QUITS during Council budget meeting

UKIP councillor, Star Anderton, sensationally quit her seat last night and left the Council House in tears during the authorities budget meeting.

The councillor and disability campaigner, who had indicated on social media that she would not stand for re-election in May, left the chamber after telling the assembled members she felt 'victimised'.

The Mayor of Dudley, Councillor Dave Tyler, who was chairing the meeting told her he would "not tolerate outbursts" in the chamber, to which Cllr Anderton replied "What are you going to do?" before reportedly exclaiming "screw you all" as she left the chamber, shortly after the council voted down an amendment to the budget put forward by Councillor Paul Brothwood, the authorities UKIP leader.

Labour group leader Councillor Pete Lowe accused UKIP of putting on a 'theatre show' but Cllr Anderton said she'd "had enough of being bullied".

The resignation comes as Anderton's former partner, Councillor Bill Etheridge, faces a standards committee hearing over claims he failed to maintain the 'standards of dignity and respect expected of an elected member'. The claims stem from an accusation by Cllr Pete Lowe, former leader of the authority, after Cllr Etheridge posted videos on social media saying the Council House should be 'demolished with the councillors inside'.
