Wolverhampton Theatre Celebrates 122nd Anniversary

Wolverhampton Grand Theatre celebrated its 122nd birthday at the weekend with the cast of this years pantomime, Aladdin, including Joe McElderry and Lisa Riley.

In its 122-year history the Grand Theatre has hosted every imaginable pantomime, the first being Sinbad The Sailor, which opened on Christmas Eve 1894 - just two weeks after the theatre initially opened. Since then, the theatre has hosted a wealth of star names including John Inman, Don Maclean, Sinitta, Linda Lusardi and Christopher Biggins, not forgetting real live lions in a production of Robinson Crusoe!

This year’s production of Aladdin stars McElderry in the title role and Riley as Scheherazade the Slave Of The Ring. CBeebies favourite, Ben Faulks, best known as Mr Bloom on screens, plays the Policeman alongside Britain’s Got Talent finalist, Lucy Kay as Princess Jasmine and Doreen Tipton as the Lazy Empress Of China.

ALADDIN, is now open at the Grand Theatre and runs until Sunday 22nd January 2017. Tickets are already on sale and can be booked in person, by phone on 01902 42 92 12 or online at grandtheatre.co.uk.
