A woman was taken to a major trauma centre after two 4x4s crashed on the A449 at Prestwood yesterday.

The incident, which saw one of the vehicles roll down an embankment into trees, happened at Prestwood near Ashwood Nurseries just before 1.30pm.

Two ambulances, a paramedic area support officer and the critical care paramedics from the Midlands Air Ambulance from Staffordshire, who were responding in a car today due to Storm Doris, were sent to the scene - along with firefighters from Brierley Hill Fire Station.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “When crews arrived they found one 4x4 with significant front end damage, but a second one down an embankment in trees after it had rolled over."

A 67-year-old woman driving the second vehicle suffered a fractured ankle and chest injuries.

After her condition was stabilised at the scene - she was taken by ambulance on blue lights to the region's major trauma unit at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham."

The driver of the other vehicle, a 50-year-old man, was complaining of back pain and had suffered multiple abrasions - while a 49-year-old woman from the same vehicle suffered seatbelt injuries.

Both were taken to Russells Hall Hospital, Dudley.
