Woman Sexually Assaulted At New Street Station

Police are investigating after a woman was allegedly sexually assaulted at New Street Station.

The 34-year-old victim had entered the station from Stephenson Street and was walking down the ramp by Boots, when a man reportedly slapped her bottom.

The incident allegedly happened around 9.45am on December 1. Police have only just released details of the alleged attack. PC Fiona Davies, said:

“Everyone has the right to travel on the railway without fear of sexual assault. This woman was simply walking through the station when a man she did not know decided to slap her behind as she went past.

This is unacceptable and I commend the victim for reporting the incident. We encourage passengers to report unwanted sexual behaviour to police as we always take it seriously and take action.

“We would like to speak to the man shown in the CCTV image as he may have information which could help with this investigation.”

Anyone with information should call 0800 40 50 40 or text 61016 quoting reference number 218 16/01/17.
