Man charged in connection with alleged Golders Green ambulance arson

A fifth person has been charged in connection with the alleged Hatzola ambulance arson in Golders Green.

Subhan Ahmed, 18, from Walthamstow, east London, was charged on Monday, 8 June with assisting an offender, the Metropolitan Police said.

Ahmed, a British national, is the fifth person to be charged in connection with the incident in Golders Green, north London.

Four ambulances belonging to Jewish charity Hatzola were damaged in the early hours of 23 March.

The resulting blaze caused gas canisters inside the vehicles to explode, causing about £1m of damage. Nearby flats and a synagogue were also damaged by the fire.

It is alleged that three people set fire to the fully stocked ambulances, while a fourth waited in a blue Toyota Avensis.

Three men and a boy have already been charged with committing arson destroying or damaging property being reckless as to whether life would be endangered.

Hamza Iqbal, 20, and Rehan Khan, 19, both from Leyton, east London and Judex Atshatshi, 18, from Dagenham, east London, are all due to face trial in January. A 17-year-old boy from Walthamstow, who cannot be named because of his age, has also been charged.

They will next appear at the Old Bailey on 28 August.
