Arrest Made After Fatal Hit and Run

A suspected hit and run driver has been arrested following a collision in Dudley on Thursday night in which an 18-year-old girl lost her life.

Officers were called to reports of a collision between an Audi and Ford Fiesta in Priory Road at 10.35pm.

The driver of the Audi abandoned the car at the scene.

A 24-year-old man handed himself into a local police station last night, he will be questioned on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The driver of the Fiesta, 18-year-old Georgie Ann Evans from Himley, was confirmed dead at the scene while a passenger suffered non-life threatening injuries. A tribute from Georgie’s parents said:

“Our beautiful, kind-hearted and spirited daughter has been taken away from us. We appeal to anyone to please come forward with any information that may assist the investigation."

Sergeant Alan Wood, from the West Midlands Police Collision Investigation Unit, said: "Our enquiries are continuing and we are still appealing for witnesses to come forward.

“In particular, we would like to speak to the driver of a light coloured van that was travelling along Priory Road shortly after the collision and turned left into Cedar Road, Wrens Nest.

We have specialist officers who continue to liaise with Georgie’s family and our thoughts remain with them at this sad time."
