Black Country Radio to spend Christmas Eve with Beverley Knight

This Christmas Eve, the people of the Black Country are invited to sit back, relax and forget the stresses of the festive period as Black Country Radio spends two hours in the company of local star, Beverley Knight, as she celebrates 25 years in the music industry.

Knight, who has recently released a live album - BK25 - is celebrating 25 years in the music industry, having been signed by Dome Records in 1994. She released her first studio, The B-Funk, the following year.

For a quarter of a century, Beverley has confidently carved a solid career in music, highlighted by gold and platinum-selling albums, 14 Top 40 hits, sold-out tours, 3 MOBO Awards, and several Brit Award and Mercury Music Prize nominations. BK25 is a celebration of a true British soul music icon at the top of her game, with a view of many more great years to come.

The Wolverhampton native has written, recorded and performed with artists including Take That, Chaka Khan, Prince and Stevie Wonder as well as taking lead roles in three major West End musicals, including Cats and The Bodyguard, for which she was nominated for a WhatsOnStage Award for Best Takeover In A Role. Beverley was also honoured with an MBE for services to music in 2006.

During the two-hour special, listeners can expect to hear the new album in full, as well as Beverley talking about her Wolverhampton roots, her career to date - plus an amazing, spontaneous, superstar duet with two giants of the industry! The Black Country songstress sat down with Dan Richards ahead of her performance to 13,000 fans at Arena Birmingham, earlier this month. Dan said:

"I'm a huge fan of Beverley and have been since 2002 when she released 'Shoulda Woulda Coulda'. She's undeniably one of the most talented performers we have in the UK, let alone the Black Country.

"However, what struck me during our chat was how humble she was. 25 years hadn't gone to her head - she was still the same local girl (and die-hard Wolves fan!) that she was when she started out and was so genuinely grateful for the opportunities she's had presented to her.

"I hope people can hear that in the conversation we recorded - and can hear the sheer passion she delivers all of her hits - and a few surprises - with on the album!"

'BK25 - In Full' airs on Tuesday 24th December 2019 at 9pm as part of the stations Christmas schedule.
